Here is the course on Italian director GIANNI AMELIO new essay on Lamerica ____________________________________________________________ Gianni Amelio is the maker of the award winning films Porte aperte, Ladro di bambini, Lamerica, Così ridevano (Leone d'oro—Mostra di Venezia 1998). He is considered one of the most clever and socially involved films directors in Europe. The internationally acclaimed Ladro di bambini (Stolen Children) —a story about the journey, through Italy of the end of the Millennium, of a young idealist army officer and two young children he is asked to escort (Special Jury Prize—Cannes Film Festival 1992). The course here offered is one among the few in all North America, on this exceptionally intellectual director. My goal is to give to all those who love cinema, and are interested in contemporary cultural, sociological and historical developments in Italy—within the European context—the tools to analyzed and
then formalize their critical understanding of modern society through
the cinematic medium. Copyright © 2001 Anthony Cristiano, Toronto (last update: June 2003)
