Updated notice about the exam:

The exam, which could not be held on August 14th because of the power outage, has been rescheduled for Monday, August 25th (still 7-10 p.m. in SF 3202). Students who are unable to write the exam at the new time have the option of having their final marks calculated from the already completed course requirements (in this case, the homework exercises, the term test, and the transcription quiz). More information about the exam arrangements is available from the Faculty of Arts and Science. Questions about these arrangements may be directed to ask@artsci.utoronto.ca.

For students who choose to have their final marks calculated on term work without the final exam, the relative proportions of the components of the mark will remain the same, but will be scaled up so as to add up to 100%. This works out to:

  • Homework exercises will be collected in tutorials on Thursdays and returned on the following Tuesdays. Because homework assignments will be discussed in tutorial the day they are handed in, late assignments cannot be accepted.
  • The term test will be held during the lecture hours on Tuesday, July 22 in room UC 266 (East Hall).
  • The transcription quiz involves transcribing nonsense words using the sounds and symbols learned in class. It will be held in the tutorials on Thursday, July 24.
  • The final exam will be held on Monday, August 25, from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m., in SF 3202.

The University Grading Practices Policy states that "[g]rades should always be based on the approved grade scales. However, students may find that on any one evaluation they may receive a numerical or letter mark that reflects the score achieved on the test or essay. The cumulative scores may not be directly identified with the final grade. Grades are final only after review by the divisional review committee."
