These reading materials and exercises provide a review of very basic mathematics for use by students who plan to study economics in graduate school or who have long ago completed their graduate study and need a quick review of what they have learned. The material is divided into a number of sections, each of which can be downloaded and read separately.
Variables, Equations and Functions (mathrev1.pdf -- 90k).
Calculus: Differentiation and Integration (mathrev2.pdf -- 450k).
Matrix Algebra (mathrev3.pdf -- (51k).
Matrix Calculations Using XLispStat (xlsmatex.pdf -- (51k).
Alternatively, you have the option to
Download and Read all in a Single PDF File (mathrev.pdf -- 540k).
The XLispStat Program, which works under all recent versions of MS-Windows, is available here. Simply Download the Self-Executing ZipFile (wxls32zp.exe -- 540k) and extract it in a sub-directory (call it XLispStat) of the Program Files Directory. Everything you need to know about the program to do the exercise above is discussed in the above file containing that exercise. You can also download and/or read the XLispStat batch (or input) file (matrix.lsp -- 4k) and output file (matrix.lou -- 4k) referred to in the Matrix Calculations Using XLispStat exercise.
