Locating Bibliography in the Library

N.B. All of the recommended bibliography listed on the reading lists is present in the University of Toronto system. Do not allow anyone to tell you otherwise. If you cannot find it, consult a professional librarian, or use the journal location list.

Bibliographical references are normally provided in a format that tells you whether the item in question is a monograph, article in a journal, or an essay in an anthology.

• Monograph
  Dunn, J.D.G. Romans 9-16. Word Biblical Commentary 38B. Waco: Word Books, 1988.
  [Note: Monograph Title in italics; Series Title in normal font.]
  
  Lookup under ‘Author’: Dunn, J.D.G. or ‘Title ’: Romans 9-16 or ‘Series ’: Word Biblical Commentary

• Article in a Journal
  Mullins, T.Y. “Greeting as a New Testament Form.” Journal of Biblical Literature 87 (1968):418-23.
  [Note that the article title is always in quotation marks and the journal/serial title is in italics.]
  
  Lookup under ‘Periodical Title’ : Journal of Biblical Literature
  Do not lookup under Mullins, or "Greeting as a New Testament Form." Since this is an article in a journal, neither the author's name nor the essay title will be indexed in UTCAT.

• Essay in an Anthology
  Schreck, C.J. “The Nazareth Pericope: Luke 4,16-30 in Recent Study” in L’Evangile selon Luc. The Gospel of Luke, 399-471. Ed. Frans Neirynck. BETL 35. Leuven: Leuven University Press, 1989.
  [Note that the article title is in quotation marks, the anthology title is in italics, and the series abbreviation (BETL) is in normal font.]
  
  Lookup under ‘Author’: Neirynck, Frans [really, the editor], or ‘Title ’: L’Evangile selon Luc . Do not lookup under Schreck or "Nazareth Pericope." Since this is an essay published in an anthology, neither the author nor the essay title will be indexed in UTCAT.
