Executive Committee
- President: Derek Denis
All students enrolled in a graduate programme in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Toronto are automatically members of the Linguistics Graduate Course Union (LGCU), as well as the university-wide Graduate Student Union (GSU). Furthermore, almost all members of the LGCU are also members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) due to their TA-ships and instructorships. While CUPE advocates for graduate students at the national and provincial level and the GSU represents grad students at the university level, the LGCU is primarily focused on the experiences of graduate students in the Department of Linguistics.
LGCU members work together with the Department of Linguistics to improve both the graduate and undergraduate experience at the University of Toronto. Members are active in organising and hosting academic conferences, tutoring undergraduates, providing TA training, fundraising for the departmental library, editing working papers and conference proceedings, TA-ing, and teaching.
