Preliminary Presentation

Fri Sept 15  Introduction, Presentation Skills and Supervision

All second year papers in 4060 will be taped by the TATP office.  There will be some delay between taping each student’s presentation and the viewing of these recordings. The TATP office needs time to transfer the recording to their office laptop and burn a DVD for you. A TATP staff member will contact each of you when your DVD recording is ready to be viewed. A time will be set up for you to come into the TATP office to view the recording with a TATP staff member. You should feel free to contact the TATP office at services.ta@utoronto.ca or to phone Kathleen at (416) 946-3619 to check on the progress of the DVD transfer. Because the TATP office is so busy at the beginning of term (running seminar series and delivering departmental training sessions), they conjecture that no DVDs will be ready to be viewed and no in-person consultations can take place until the end of October.

Please post papers on your website at least two weeks prior to your seminar, and email the link to your discussants and to Michael and Joanne.  Please remind your supervisors before each of your talks so that hopefully they will be able to attend.

Discussants – please send us your slides after your talk so that we can post them for reference.  Thanks.

Reminder:  First drafts of all second year papers are due at the very latest on September 1st.  This is an important deadline. (The very serious consequences of missing any of the deadlines associated with your second year paper are outlined in the Benjamin memo of 2004.)

Please schedule departmental talks (the one in the area group’s workshop) as early as possible. By September, it is very likely that the fall schedule will be entirely full (or at least that the more desirable dates will be taken).  Again, finishing the second year paper requirement (including this presentation) in the fall is another important departmental deadline and missing it has serious consequences.  It is each student’s responsibility to schedule their own talk (although your supervisor may be able to help you set up this talk). Please contact the course organizers (for fall 2007) as soon as possible if there are any scheduling difficulties.
