Lisbon is the protagonist of Bernardo Soares` diary O Livro do Desassossego (the Book of Restlessness). For Soares Douradores Street where he worked as an assistant book-keeper constituted "an entire life." His fragmented and incomplete journal details his wanderings through the streets of his favourite commercial district in Lisbon, the Baixa. Soares made no attempt to publish O Livro do Desassossego and it was only discovered and published in Portugal in 1982. |
